I realize that Waynesville, North Carolina is a very small town in Western North Carolina, but it's amazing the culture that makes it's way to us. Folkmoot USA 2009 is celebrating 26 years here in our quaint town. It is North Carolina's Official International Festival and a two-week celebration of the world's cultural heritage through folk music and dance.
The festival is headquartered at the Folkmoot Friendship Center, a former elementary school, in Waynesville, about 25 miles west of Asheville. During its 25-year history, over 200 folk groups from more than 100 countries have shared their heritage and culture at Folkmoot USA.
Be sure to see the Folkmoot Festival Parade of Nations on Friday, July 17 at 1 pm and enjoy crafts and entertainment at International Festival Day on Saturday, July 25 from 10 am - 5 pm. Both events take place in downtown Waynesville.
The 2009 Folkmoot Festival will take place on July 16 – 26. It has been designated “One of the Top Twenty Events in the Southeast” by the Southeast Tourism Society.
