Girlfriend's Getaways, Fun,Fun,Fun at Andon-Reid Inn

There is nothing like a Girlfriend's Getaway, which here at Andon-Reid Inn Bed and Breakfast we call it the Ya Ya Sisterhood Escape. This year we have had so many Ya's Ya's celebrating their friendship with us. We have a group in now from Melbourne and Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. At this very moment these women are relaxing in their rooms while receiving a Swedish massage. The Jacuzzi's in the suites will compliment their spa experience while the other is getting a massage. Last night when the group arrived they opted to have a cheese, fruit and chocolate platter brought up to their suite with a couple bottles wine.That was the last we saw of them till breakfast this morning! Hanging out with your girlfriends is always a great time. Experiencing it in the mountains of Western North Carolina is even better!

Jewelry or Oven ; Challenges At Andon-Reid Inn Bed and Breakfast

August has turned out to be an incredibly busy month here at Andon-Reid Inn Bed and Breakfast.We've had Girlfriend Getaways, a wedding, an elopement, a Tribute To Julia Child dinner, which just happened to be on her birthday, many anniversaries, birthdays, golf outings and just plain old getaways. It has been so much fun. Sometimes I feel as though we are running a great big party house. In the middle of all of this my double oven took a dive. The only thing I could do with it was bake at 350 degrees. Do you have any idea how many things you bake NOT at 350 degrees? What a challenge for 3 busy weeks. That's how long it took to get the oven I wanted. I must admit that the kitchen has been an area to enter with caution. Well, my double oven was installed yesterday and I'm actually giddy. I never thought that I would be this happy about a new appliance. Before the world of Innkeeping, it might have been a piece of jewelry, a trip to some far away place or even tickets to a great Broadway show. Now it's a double oven. Priorities change and I must say I'm okay with that! Come visit us at our bed and breakfast in the Smoky Mountains and see what creation I'm baking today.

Personal Training At Andon-Reid Inn Bed and Breakfast

Before Ron and I became the lucky Innkeepers of Andon-Reid Inn Bed and Breakfast we had been personal trainers in South Florida. It was very important to us that we held on to those skills and incorporate them into our bed and breakfast. There are very few inns, where the guests can have a Fitness Studio and 2 certified personal trainers at their beckon call. We get questions all the time about specific exercises, goals, nutrition habits and what machines to purchase for home use. We love it and so do our guests.

Recently, I added a new client who found me through my best friend Patricia Becker, who is a Massage Therapist and Wellness Coach in Boca Raton, Florida. Julie is from Waynesville and has a goal to lose 150 pounds. Patricia and I are working together with Julie to set goals on a monthly basis in several areas that will impact her in a positive way. In order to not only lose this amount of weight, but to keep it off, it is necessary to have a cohesive and motivational plan. We are incorporating strength training, cardiovascular training, nutritional education and wellness coaching which celebrates who you are by taking advantage of strengths you already possess and using them to invest in your greatest asset in which case is Julie! We are into our second week and have already lost 7.5 lbs! Julie is extremely determined to lose this weight and incorporate all the tools that Patricia and I have been giving her. I will keep you updated on Julie's progress throughout this journey.

Chocolate Desserts At Andon-Reid Inn

Chocolate... isn't there anything it can't do? Not bloody likely. It's probably one of the most requested foods whether it be cookies, cakes, sauces, or anything that we offer at Andon-Reid Inn.

Way back in my early years I owned a couple of ice cream parlours in Tampa and Ft.Lauderdale called Larry's Ice Cream. Outstanding homemade ice cream made in batches and delivered twice a week. I developed some very special baked goods that would accompany that ice cream. One of the most popular was the Chocolate Mania Cake warmed with vanilla bean ice cream and whipped cream. Wow!!

This weekend we had a great group of guests from all over the place. Our Chattanooga guests walked into the house, never met them, and said I'm waiting for my Choco Mania Cake. Okay you've got it! So the next morning there they had it and totally devoured it. This is after a full breakfast! Nothing like real whipped cream to have as a topping, that actually slides off because it's so warm. I'm willing to share this recipe with you and it is outstanding!

Choco-Mania Cake

1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
3 ounces baking chocolate, melted
1/4 cup flour
3 eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla

Cream the butter and sugar. Add the chocolate, eggs and vanilla, Blend well and the add the flour.Fold in till blended. Bake at 325 degrees for 25-30 minutes. Let cool for 10 minutes and then serve. You can also cover it for the next day and heat it in the microwave for 20 seconds and then serve with vanilla ice cream and the whipped cream. Mmmm.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park 75th Anniversary Celebration In Western North Carolina

Andon-Reid Inn Bed and Breakfast is fortunate to be situated at the foothills of The Great Smoky Mountains in Western North Carolina. This year commemorates the 75th Anniversary of The Great Smoky Mountains, the most visited national park in the United States. Many local businesses and organizations in Haywood County have partnered to celebrate this milestone with "Play In The Park Week". The events start on August 28, 2009 and go through to September 7, 2009. The venue is enormous. There will be a classic car show,storytelling, guided hikes, elk viewing,movies, folk music, dancing, a golf tournament, fly fishing and something for everyone.Andon-Reid Inn is participating in this grand celebration with 5 other bed and breakfasts located in Waynesville, NC. All of our homes have deep roots in this county and we will all be telling our historical stories along with a tour of the home. Our Great Smoky Mountains B and B Tour will be held on September 3, 2009 from 3PM - 6PM. Admission price is free and all donations will be given to The Friends of the Smokies.
