Asheville Theater, The Rivalry, Andon-Reid Inn B&B

The Diana Wortham Theater, a downtown Asheville theater is presenting "The Rivalry" a rendition of the Douglas-Lincoln debates. Only 30 minutes from our Waynesville, NC bed and breakfast, the timing couldn't be any better than to observe an era when the political candidates ideas and words meant everything. These debates shaped the nation. Their epic clash of ideas and oratory forged a future President and a nation.

In 1858, two extraordinary men, Abraham Lincoln and incumbent Senator Stephen A. Douglas tackled some of the day's most passionate and controversial issues - above all those of slavery and the American concept of freedom. As seen through the eyes of Douglas' young wife Adele, the play illuminates two of the most charismatic politicians of any era.
