LaZoom Asheville Tours, Bed and Breakfast Waynesville, NC

Last week I did a blog on the Asheville Trolley Tours and it is only fair that I do a piece on the La Zoom Asheville Tours which also takes you on a tour of Asheville but with a real fun twist. They both deserve their own write up. A couple of guests that stayed at our bed and breakfast in Waynesville, NC decided that this was the tour for them. They had a blast.

There are 3 tours to choose from. The City Tour which covers  all of Asheville from a "historical and hysterical" standpoint. It lasts for 90 minutes with a 15 minute break in the middle.  You can bring along your favorite beverage such as beer or wine and enjoy the show. The next tour is The Haunted Comedy Tour which explores Asheville's strange and sordid past. Done after dark and are 60 minutes long. The last is the Asheville Art Tour in which you will visit the studios of many working artists along the River Arts District and West Asheville. The tour guide is a local artist and lasts for 2 1/2 hours.

When our guests came back to our North Carolina mountain retreat they said " get on the big purple bus!"

Asheville Trolley Tours, Waynesville NC Bed and Breakfast

Many of the guests that visit our Waynesville NC bed and breakfast want to tour Asheville. We always suggest driving into Asheville, which is only 30 minutes away, and hop on board the Asheville Trolley Tours.

There is no better way to see this fun city and all it has to offer than to choose the RED trolleys. This live-narrated tour takes from 1.5 to 1.75 hours for a complete loop. You can hop off at any of the 9 trolley stops to shop, dine or explore, then hop back on to the next trolley to continue your tour.

The tour costs $20 and you can purchase the tickets at the Asheville Visitor Center and most tour stops. We suggest starting at the visitor Center where there is free parking and restrooms.

Make a full day of it and then return to our Smoky Mountain bed and breakfast and relax on the wrap around porch with a good book and a glass of wine.

Strawberry Tiramisu At Waynesville, NC Bed and Breakfast

In honor of National Strawberry Month we will serving a wonderful Strawberry Tiramisu courtesy of Giada De Laurentiis at our bed and breakfast in Waynesville, NC.

It seems like every Spring I come back to this recipe with the abundance of fresh strawberries available. It is easy to put together and keeps well in the refrigerator.

Prepare this a day ahead so all of the elements can meld and the ladyfingers to soften fully.

    1 1/4 cups strawberry preserves
1/3 cup plus 4 tablespoons Cointreau orange liqueur
    1/3 cup orange juice
1 pound mascarpone cheese, room temperature
1 1/3 cups chilled whipping cream
    1/3 cup sugar
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract
52 (about) crisp ladyfingers (boudoirs or Savoiardi)
    1 1/2 pounds strawberries, divided

Whisk preserves, 1/3 cup Cointreau, and orange juice in 2-cup measuring cup. Place mascarpone cheese and 2 tablespoons Cointreau in large bowl; fold just to blend. Using electric mixer, beat cream, sugar, vanilla, and remaining 2 tablespoons Cointreau in another large bowl to soft peaks. Stir 1/4 of whipped cream mixture into mascarpone mixture to lighten. Fold in remaining whipped cream.

Hull and slice half of strawberries. Spread 1/2 cup preserve mixture over bottom of 3-quart oblong serving dish or a 13x9x2-inch glass baking dish. Arrange enough ladyfingers over strawberry mixture to cover bottom of dish. Spoon 3/4 cup preserve mixture over ladyfingers, then spread 2 1/2 cups mascarpone mixture over. Arrange 2 cups sliced strawberries over mascarpone mixture. Repeat layering with remaining lady fingers, preserve mixture, and mascarpone mixture. Cover with plastic and chill at least 8 hours or overnight.

Slice remaining strawberries. Arrange over tiramas├╣ and serve.

*Italian cream cheese available at supermarkets and at Italian markets.

Makes 8 servings.
