Bird Watching, Birding Tours Off the Blue Ridge Parkway

Blue Grosling
With Spring coming upon us so early our Waynesville bed and breakfast has  had  many inquiries about the bird watching and birding tours we ran last year off the Blue Ridge Parkway. Are we doing it again? Obviously it was a big hit. With more than 20 species of nesting warblers, grosbeaks, scarlet tanagers, flycatchers, orioles and more, we decided to put together another birding tour package.Visiting birders can expect great days afield, even during the summer. Throw in cool mountain mornings and dazzling wildflowers along the Blue Ridge Parkway and birding just gets even better.

Our bed and breakfast, near Asheville, is offering half-day and full day guided tours. The tour will actually begin with having breakfast with your guide, where you will learn what to expect including likely species, route, weather forecast  and more.

Your guide, Don Hendershot, is a naturalist, freelance writer and biological consultant. His column “The Naturalist’s Corner” has appeared weekly in the Smoky Mountain News for more than a decade. His fascination with the outdoors led to a degree in Wildlife Conservation from Louisiana Tech University.

Tours kick-off early at our North Carolina bed and breakfast, with breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Birders will leave the Inn, promptly at 8:30 a.m. We will provide snacks and drinks for the half-day tour and snacks, drinks and a brown-bag lunch for the full day trip. Half-day tours normally return to the Inn between 12 and 1 p.m. and full day tours generally return between 5 and 6 p.m. There will be refreshments and a chance to visit while tallying the day’s species upon.

So if you are planning to visit Western North Carolina and searching for any particular bird species that occurs in the mountains give this package a try. If you are a birder(s) with specific target species we can help you create a package to fit your needs!

Add $219.00 for a half day and  $279.00 for a full day to the guest room of your choice. These prices are for double occupancy plus 11% tax.

  2. I was thinking I might find myself in that area this spring as family lives not too far from it. What a timely and informative post. Thank you!
