Waynesville, NC; Appalachian Lifestyle Celebration

Our Downtown Waynesville Association for the 2nd year is putting on a great heritage themed event called the Appalachian Lifestyle Celebration. This fun filled event is all about the mountain lifestyle, history and traditions behind it.

Main Street will become alive with the mountain music of Chompin' At the Bit String Band,Barefoot Movement and  Michael Reno Harrell  an award-winning songwriter as well as a veteran storyteller. There will be dance showcasing the J Creek Cloggers and Smoky Mountain Stompers. Storytelling is an integral part of the Appalachian lifestyle and will be featured as well as demonstrations, arts and crafts and all the traditional foods.

For all of you Civil War buffs there will be the Civil War Commemorative Weekend tied into this celebration. It will be held at the Shelton House just off Main Street on June 8th and 9th, 2012. There will be lectures, demonstrations, a Civil War fashion show and Musket firing. A living history camp will be open all day with military and civilian reenactments present plus self guided tours of Shelton House Historical Site beginning at 11:00 am.
